Student Health

The Appleton Area School District promotes healthy schools by supporting wellness, good nutrition, and regular physical activity as part of the total learning environment. The District supports a healthy environment where children learn and participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices. By facilitating learning through the support and promotion of good nutrition and physical activity, schools contribute to the basic health status of children. Improved health optimizes student performance potential. (Board Policy 341.34)

Wellness isn’t a new idea to Edison Elementary. Edison is the only eight time winner of the Wisconsin State School Health Award in the state of Wisconsin (three platinum, four gold, and one silver).

Our Education for Healthy Kids Committee (EHK) is composed of teachers and parents. They attend a day and a half workshop each August to learn about children’s health concerns. They also develop a plan for our school to implement in the upcoming school year.

A student EHK Council was started several years ago. Our EHK Team is responsible for our “one of a kind” Student Wellness Room. Please stop into room 108 when you get a chance to see it. We know healthy, fit children learn better.
